Guizhou province is more famous for its twin peak of Fan Jing Mountain, where each peak houses a temple, and a bridge spans across the 2,500m peaks. The mountain has been associated with Buddhism since the Tang dynasty (1,300 years ago), and it is regarded as one of holy mountains in China.

It was millions of years ago when earth movements south of China elevated ocean floors into mountains. Fan Jing Mountain - the main peak of the Wu Lin Mountain Range (武陵山脉) - was one of the first to climb during those prehistoric times, bringing with it the rich minerals from the seas which now feeds the strong agriculture and tea cultivations around the area. The tea grows within awe-inspiring karst landform and untouched, pristine forests well-drained by numerous rivers. The mountain range was globally recognised as being the most well preserved nature reserve within the same latitude. As such, the mountain range was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1986 and a World Heritage Site in 2018. Yin Jiang county (印江县) where the mountain is located produced tea for the royal court during the Ming dynasty (600 years ago).

Our tea is cultivated at Fan Jing Mountain north spur of Da Sheng Dun (大圣墩), at an elevation of 1,200 m. The humid, foggy and cool climate brings ample rain to nourish the tea cultivation. The tea was harvested before Qing Ming festival (5th April 2023), with early picking showing in its dark green tone outlined by a white border from the tender downy hairs. It is picked 1 bud 1 leaf, and is curly and shaped like hooks.

Brew Flavour
We are brewing this tea in our
Parchmen Glass Gaiwan, using 3g of tea to 120ml of 75°C distilled water for 30 seconds. The dry leaves already exude impressions of dried berries and hawthorns. The brew aroma is forward on minerality, sweet umami, roasted chestnuts and almonds, and small temperate fruits like dark cherries, grapes and cranberries. The flavour integrates these aromas on a sugar cane juiciness, trailing to a smooth quenching aftertaste of yellow flowers and a curious note of pineapple.

This tea can be brewed twice. For the second brew, use more water at 150ml for the same brewing time and temperature.

Enjoy!
