An ode to Taiwan's Oriental Beauty or Bai Hao Oolong.
This beautiful tea uses only tips and two leaves unlike traditional oolong which uses the bigger leaves. This is the reason for the beautifully varying colors of the leaves - white, yellow, brown, red, green.
This tea was grown without insecticides to encourage a common pest - the tea jassid - to feed on the leaves. This leads to the plant's defensive production of monoterpene and hotrienol which gives the tea its unique flavour.
Although processed as an oolong, this tea is heavily oxidised as evidenced by the fully pink leaves after the brew, an oxidation level approaching that of a red tea. The tea is bright golden and smooth like honey water. It has an alluring flavour profile of honey and ripe fruits that lingers on a smooth mouthfeel
We also included this tea in our Nov 2022 tea box. Read about it here.
