|Origin||Finca El Guayaquil, Flor Del Norte, Huabla, Cajamarca, Peru|
|Varietal||Red & Yellow Caturra|
Orlando Coronel Cervesa comes from Flor Del Norte, one of the most remote regions in Peru's Cajamarca region. The nearby town has a population of just 200-odd people, but some of the best coffee-growing conditions in South America.
Orlando learned the art of coffee cultivation from his parents and grandparents. He received the 2-hectare Finca El Guayaquil as an early inheritance on his wedding. Since then, he has been growing some of the best organic coffee in Peru alongside his wife and two young children.
Finca El Guayaquil is certified organic but it hasn't been an easy journey. High-quality varietals like Caturra are more susceptible to coffee rust than tough hybrids like Catimor or Tim-tim. Hence, a lot of effort was put into organic disease prevention methods, working with experts from the Alpes Andino coffee association. The farm's trees is fertilised with Peru's famous 'guanos de la islas' (an organic mix of compost and seabird excrement); then triple-washed with water from the nearby El Mirador mountain.
