Darjeeling 2nd Flush Teas have long be referred to as Champagne of teas due to it's unique muscatel notes. With the tea plant first brought over in 1841 by the East India Company to create an alternative supply of teas outside of China. The Chinese variety was originally from Wuyi Mountains, Fujian province, which the locals often referred to as China Clone.

Local adaption and Indian Tea plantations created new varietals like the AV2 (from Ambari Vegetative) have since been developed to create better yields and increase the flavour profiles of the tea.

Terms like Exclusive refers to the current day's harvest are exclusively being sold as a whole batch. 

SFTGFOP1 refers to Special Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe, which is the highest grade of Indian tea picking.

For this month we are introducing some great Darjeelings including:

Arya Ruby (Exclusive)

The Arya Tea Estate was established in 1885 and was originally known as ‘Sidrabong’. Legend tells that the garden was founded by Buddhist monks who developed and cultivated different varieties of Chinese seed. The house inhabited by the monks in the 19th century can still be found on the estate. The plantation starts at an altitude of 1820 meters and spreads down to 900 meters, with an average elevation of about 1500 metres. It produces around 70 tons of tea annually, 30 tons less than before the estate became organic. Some of its most famous teas are its ‘Jewel’ range, including Ruby (Black Tea), Emerald (Green Tea), Pearl (White Tea), Diamond (Chunky Tips) and Topaz (Oolong). All of their Jewel range teas are produced from special clonal tea bushes mainly from AV2 varietal planted on the highest point of the tea garden area.

Jungpana Vintage Muscatel (Organic)

Jungpana Tea Estate was planted by Henry Montgomery Lennox in 1899. It was subsequently managed by G.W.O’Brien, who was forced in the aftermath of the Second World War to sell it to the ruling Rana of Nepal. The Kejriwal family took it over around 1956 and they continue till now. It is around 12 km from Kurseong in a rather remote and isolated place, not accessible by any motorable road. It is connected through a snaking pathway, accessible only on foot. More than 350 steep steps leads to a footbridge across a small stream, Changey Khola. 

Goomtee SFTGFOP1 China Clone (Organic)

Goomtee Tea Estate was planted by Henry Montgomery Lennox in 1899. It was subsequently managed by G.W.O’Brien, who was forced in the aftermath of the Second World War to sell it to the ruling Rana of Nepal. In the mid-1950s it was taken over by co-owners: the Kejriwal family and Mahabir Prasad. It is situated just beside Jungpana tea estate. Goomtea's Darjeeling are always considered one of the best in Darjeeling.

Sournee SFTGFOP1 Special (Organic)

Sournee Tea Estate came about in the early 1900s where there was a a new found potential in developing Darjeeling tea estates. A British in charge sought help from locals for clearing the forest area and in exchange gave an area in Mirik to them which is now Sournee Tea Estate. This area was unfortunately given away by the son of the resident to settle outstanding debts with a provision store who in turned developed the lands into a high elevation tea estate.

Apart from its premium Darjeeling teas, Sournee Tea Estate is known for its tourism and picturesque landscapes, there's also accommodation for tourists in the estate.


Niroulla Smoky Wonder (Organic)

  • The tea leaves are processed through the pine smoke chamber to get the smoky aroma and flavour. This process is basically the Darjeeling version of the Lapsang Souchong, considering that the teas are originally from Wuyi Mt, this would be an interesting comparison. Niroulla Tea Farm is a relatively new farm developed in 2000 by a tea hobbist. Nuroulla tea farm revolutionised Darjeeling tea by being the only first "local boy (gorkhali) small farmer" in 200 years to own and open an indigenous mini tea processing unit in Darjeeling.

Giddaphar SFTGFOP

Giddaphar Tea estate is located on the gentle slopes of Kurseong valley. The tea estate are known for its exquisite and characteristic Darjeeling teas grown from century old china bushes.
