Founded in 1992 by Don Francisco Amadeo Palencia Rivas, the farm has 630 apples with coffee plantations and 500 acres of forest inhabited by 176 species of birds and 112 species of orchids, including Ornithocephalus cascajalensis Archila, discovered in 2011 by the Botanical Fredi Archila Morales.
The environmental management model farm is based on innovation constantly to achieve a production of coffee with the highest standards of quality targeted a highly demanding market, but in harmony with the environment and committed to the conservation of flora and local fauna.
The farm also functions as a corridor extension and transfer of agricultural technology, both for farmers in the area or region to rural development programs, organizations and governmental and non-governmental institutions.
Finca El Cascajal is situated close to the town of Esquipulas in the department of Chiquimula. The farm is both Rainforest Alliance and Utz Certified. Esquipulas' main attraction is the beautiful Black Christ located in the Basilica of Esquipulas, making the town an important place of pilgrimage for Central America.
