Oscar Schaps grew up with a great love of horses. So when he and his brother Christian Schaps purchased their first coffee farm in Guatemala's famed 'Ixil Triangle', they naturally decided to name it 'Los Caballittos'--spanish for little ponies.
This 225-hectare estate was part of the award-winning Finca La Perla, which traces its roots back to 1895. Here, the brothers continue their father's philosophy on the steep green hills of Ixil: 'To firstly respect nature for her contribution'.
All coffee is pruned and harvested by hand and 20% of the land goes to natural forest & conservation. The local kids are also taken care of as well? Oscar and Christian use the sale of their coffee to help finance the local school!
